About Us

Wells Central is a Church of England Junior School, situated on the south-western outskirts of Wells at the foot of the Mendip Hills. The school itself is set in spacious grounds with a wooded environmental area, amphitheatre, pond, football and all weather cricket pitches, a running track and an adventure playground.

In the last twelve months, the grounds have been enhanced further with the development of allotments, complete with a large poly-tunnel and the creation of an activity and sensory trail. Staff, children, parents and volunteers are all involved in the planning and creation of these areas.

Spectrum our After School Club  runs every day from 3.20pm until 6.00pm

Our eight classes are all housed in one building due to the recent addition of three new classrooms, we also have a spacious atrium and a group room.  We have a large computer suite and interactive whiteboards and computers in every classroom.  The library system is computerised and we have in excess of 6,000 books available to pupils.

We offer a wide variety of after school activities: details of all these can be found on the 'School Clubs' page. During teacher Planning, Preparation and Assessment sessions, the children have opportunities to experience art, design and technology, drama, digital music technology, life skills, dance, gymnastics, athletics and sport led by specialist tutors. Some examples of pupils’ creative work can be seen on our Art Gallery page.

We have a strong music tradition: our choirs are invited to sing in the Cathedral each year and lessons led by specialist music tutors are available for flute, guitar, piano, saxophone, brass band and recorders.

Throughout their time at Wells Central children have the chance to go on a Year camp and we also have our own minibus which enables us to enjoy off site visits.

The school hall, fully equipped with a stage, lighting and sound system, is also used for whole school worship, plays, class assemblies, P.E sessions, House meetings and hot and cold lunches.
